Ballerina Hair Chronicles.

Greetings all!! As many of you may already know, Nutcracker Season ❄️🌸 is in full swing!! During this time especially, it is common for us to learn multiple hair styles, while preserving healthy hair. It is a common misconception that ethnic hair textures lack the potential to look polished.

Figuring out your hair texture needs, its capabilities and how to maintain it on and off the stage is quite beautiful and sacred. *I’ve attached a link, please view. You’ll see my version of a French Twist created in less than 5 mins. Show days require efficiency and attention to detail. https://youtu.be/C3mPZm0EJi0

Journey

Greetings all!! I’ve been silent for awhile. Living, processing, changing, learning and growing. This post I’ll begin with, thank you for following for all this time. And, thank you for joining me. Dance/Physical Education, wellness has been my force for so long. I’m truly blessed.

My blog focuses on the life and journey of this body/mind. Maybe, you find my writing inspirational and entertaining.  Over the past 5 years, I’ve found myself in a beautiful dance, a tango between the art of dance, GYROKINESIS®, fitness and yoga. More than 3x of a decade of life has shown me, mobility of the body and mind are key!!   I attend to transfer things I’ve learned and am learning on this journey. Please feel free to join me.

Swan sighting…

A little over a week ago, a had the opportunity to perform in a first annual recital in BK. I was asked by a friend of mine to come and represent ballet/ballerinas that reflect cultural aspects of which, majority of the students reside. They are a small number in addition to the many in various locations, in need of exposure to artists that can not only teach, but show them that it is possible. And that they too can achieve whatever their goals may be! No matter what you look like, what you’ve been through or where you come from. Here’s a video from that blessing of an evening performance.  The rawness of the quality and commentary: matter of fact, golden and priceless.

Breast cancer awareness

IMG_3198.JPG Greetings all. October isn’t the only time to bring breast cancer into awareness, it’s everyday. A little over 2 years ago, a very talented, dear friend, fantastic ballerina and choreographer and sister of mine, fought a long and hard battle with cancer. She lived, loved and danced her way, throughout her entire battle. I love her and miss her everyday. http://balletnews.co.uk/long-time-ballet-san-jose-dancer-tiffany-glenn-dead-from-cancer-at-age-33/

Expression vs Perception

Greetings! Today is the perfect day for research and reflection! I woke this morning to a strong desire to look internally at how I was feeling and growing very much as a woman/artist. The topics of the day are: Expression vs Perception. Expression: the process of making one’s thoughts or feelings. Perception: the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. Which brings me to even more realization of the reason as to why I have taken such a liking to the  exploration of butoh and the further knowledge of the classical for of dance, Ballet. These two forms are complete opposites of each other. Ballet: revolves around the mastery of the strict technique itself. It is a form of art, which makes it expressive, through the technique and artistry. Entertaining the audience and playing a role, character and or a story. And butoh, A more recent form of art(est.1960s) comes from the foundation of pure and unguarded expressionism, born out of the need to break out of rules and boundaries of the body and mind. Not usually focused on there being judgement, entertainment or acknowledgement of the audience. Not at all like a tutu and or corset, or even a leotard. Interesting process for me. I will continue to explore, for it will be very useful  during my process of further Creativity and Growth. In general. Please feel free to share your thoughts, comments, etc with me. Thanks for taking the time to read and follow. Enjoy the rest of this day!
